Hi, I'm Luke, the Durham County Councillor for Spennymoor.
I was born in Bishop Auckland Hospital and grew up in Coxhoe. My education was far from perfect, I was a student at Whitworth Park Academy at the time of the damning Ofsted report.
My volunteering journey began with Bishop Trains at the age of 10, and now I work as the Business Development Director for Bishop Trains Limited, alongside working as the Managing Director at Excursions By Rail and a Director at the Weardale Railway Trust.
I have had all kinds of jobs, including working at Tesco, Bishop Auckland, as a checkout operator at the start of the Coronavirus pandemic and working as an Advisor at HM Revenue and Customs.
Outside of work, I volunteer as a Steering Group member for a local CIC working to change the way people think about gender stereotypes and relationship behaviours using the arts. I also enjoy volunteering as a train guard at the Weardale heritage Railway where I'm also proud to be the Youth Team Coordinator, tying in nicely with my work as the Deputy Manager of the Stockton and Darlington Railway Youth Team which provides work experience and practical education opportunities for disadvantaged children across the North East of England.
Since becoming a Councillor, I have dedicated my time to making County Durham a better place to live, work, invest and raise a family. You can read more about what I'm doing in the News section.
I hope to meet lots of you, and work with you, as your Councillor for years to come.
Cllr Luke Allan Holmes
